ETHERNET/IP ist ein von der ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association) entwickeltes System. Es nutzt die Ethernet-Infrastrukturen, jedoch unter Verwendung eines anderen Anwendungsprotokolls, das CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) heißt.
Was die Signalübertragung über Kupferleitungen anbelangt, so können 2- oder 4-paarige Ethernet-Kabel der Kategorie 5e oder höher zum Einsatz kommen.
Das System wird auch von der Firma Rockwell Automation verwendet, die ein UL Listed Kabel in der Farbe Petrolblau anbietet.
